Black Walnut Point Inn – A Secret Place of Peace.

Just 20 minutes past St. Michaels on 58-acres of bird sanctuary, Black Walnut Point offers peace and quiet with unobstructed water views in every direction. The private estate was once sealed off by Russian spies, hosted the CIA, and the First Gulf War was planned in the sunroom. Built in 1845, the charm of hand-hewn black walnut beams, broad hardwood floors, and welcoming crystal pineapple chandelier are hallmarks. Three luxury cabins line the east bulkhead 20 feet from the broad mouth of the Choptank River, and the pool and great lawn feature some of the most spectacular views found anywhere on the east coast.

The back cove is home to a pair of nesting eagles, many osprey, hawks and wintering owls. The point is on the flyway for hundreds of monarch butterflies, songbirds and waterfowl. With some of the best kayaking in the area, the Inn is also great for biking and hiking. Tilghman Island itself has many fine restaurants, is home to the oldest registered skipjack, and has many options for Sunset Cruises, Eco Tours to Poplar Island, or a Lighthouse Tour. Bay dolphins are spotted 10 feet off the western bulkhead along with skates, cow-nosed rays, and bluefish. Because the Choptank is the spawning river for rockfish, the fishing dock has landed several measured in feet.

But by far, it is the peace and quiet of our private island sanctuary make the pool, hammocks and rocking chairs the favorite.
