The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum offers a true voyage of discovery through the past, present and future of Cannabis sativa L. - also known as hemp and marihuana.
The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum offers visitors extensive documentation and information about the historical and modern uses of the cannabis plant, as well as its medicinal, religious and cultural applications, and the enormous potential of cannabis to benefit the environment, agriculture and industry in the future. Using a variety of different media including short films, paintings and photographs the Museum shows how hemp has evolved to become one of humanity's most valuable renewable resources.
For over two decades the permanent exhibition grew, along with The Collection itself, until there was literally no more room to display new exhibits. In 2008 The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum expanded into two venues with the addition of the Museum Gallery, only a few metres along the canal from the original location. This enabled many more rare and beautiful items to be displayed, including a selection of paintings by Dutch Old Masters, and antique weaving equipment that was simply too large to have been shown previously.
By exploring this website, you will find interesting information on the many facets of the plant, as well as the Museum Collection and the history of the Museum and its founder Ben Dronkers. You can get involved by visiting the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum Forums, or even by using our resources to research a study project on cannabis and hemp.
Whether you are planning a visit to Amsterdam, have already visited the Museum, or are simply curious about how Cannabis Sativa L. is part of our collective history, we hope that you will find this site as informative, interesting and useful as the Museum itself!
