The United Church of Christ is a progressive church committed to the cultivation of personal faith and social justice. In 1957, two denominations, Congregational Christian and Evangelical and Reformed, merged to form the United Church of Christ. Today, we number over 1,500,000 members and 6,100 congregations worldwide.
We, at our church in Ypsilanti, Michigan, seek to bridge the divisions and differences that have been set among us. In keeping with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we welcome all people to the life and worship of this congregation. We have formally declared ourselves to be open and inclusive to all who come. In 1988, we were the first United Church of Christ in Michigan to vote to be "open and affirming" of gay, lesbian, and bisexual members. In May, 2000, we added the word "transgendered" to our statement of openness. Jesus never turned anyone away. Neither do we.
No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
