Choices Counseling and Consulting has been serving the Capital District community since 1986. Choices is under the clinical directorship of Arlene Istar Lev, L.C.S.W-R., C.A.S.A.C., providing individual, couple, family and group counseling.
The staff of Choices are trained in general psychotherapy and family therapy, holding Master’s or PhD degrees in Social Work or Psychology. They are skilled in traditional psychotherapeutic modalities, as well as holistic and psychospiritual approaches. Although individual practitioners have different training and focus, the staff works within a feminist, narrative, and family systems framework, with additional specialization in various other modalities.
The mission of Choices Counseling and Consulting is the providing competent psychotherapeutic care to all individuals and families that respects people’s unique racial, ethnic, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and disabilities.
Choices specializes in issues related to sexual orientation, sexuality, and gender identity and expression. The staff at Choices are training counseling related to sexuality, domestic violence, sexual assault and trauma treatment, addictions and recovery, depression and anxiety, and HIV and other chronic health conditions. We work with families, couples, and children, and provide also provide adoption homestudies and post-adoption counseling.
Choices has a commitment to making therapy financially accessible. Therapists can work with many insurance companies and some services are available on a sliding scale.
All services are confidential and HIPPA regulations are rigorously followed to protect clients right to privacy.
