Giovanni's Room, founded in 1973, is now the oldest, the biggest, the best, and the most beautiful LGBT bookstore in the land. Named for the early gay novel by James Baldwin, the store is a key repository of lgbt culture.
The store’s website is a gateway to virtually any English-language book in print and access to the best listings of LGBT books anywhere. For example, if you are interested in LGBT young adult books for women, you will find listings of virtually every book published in that subject for the past five years. The website also lists the approximately fifty author readings we host each year.
There is no substitute, though, for the physical store. You can survey in a few minutes the most important books and movies in our specialties published since the last time you were in. Our staff, with over 100 years’ experience, can give you the best advice in our specialties. The inventory and staff are simply incomparable.
