The Lavender Country and Folk Dancers (LCFD) is an umbrella organization which promotes Contra Dancing, Square Dancing, English & Scottish Country Dancing, International Folk Dancing, and other related forms of dancing in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer & Questioning community, and we warmly welcome our Straight Allies and Friends! We promote this traditional form of dancing using gender-free language. (Sometimes the expression is "gender neutral," "gender role free," or "role optional"). We currently encompass several dance traditions and welcome the opportunity to include more.
Our dances are open to everyone, and are warm and welcoming, fun filled community building events. It's a great place to meet people and make new friends, and is a great form of exercise too! The dancing is easy. You do not need to know anything about dancing to attend. All dances are taught. No prior experience is needed, and you don't need to to have a partner to attend.

Currently there are affiliated contra dance groups in Jamaica Plain MA, Montague MA, New York NY, Glen Cove NY, Atlanta GA, and the San Francisco Bay Area; English country dancing in Jamaica Plain MA; and square dancing in Dorchester MA. The SF group runs the West Coast dance camp, and the Dorchester square dance group has a weekend-long "fly-in" every other year.
