barbara findlay is a lesbian lawyer and activist. She has a general legal practice focusing on the legal needs of queer communities, including immigration to Canada; human rights and equality issues; employment law; family law (including conception agreements, same sex adoption, cohabitation agreements including polyamorous agreements, separation agreements, and divorce); and other issues of concern to the community.
She has been practising law for 33 years. She was named a QC ("Queen's Counsel") - the highest award of the BC legal profession - in 2001. She has been honored by the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Conference of the Canadian Bar Association, the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund, and the Lifetime Achievement Award by Xtra West, among many others.
She regards the biggest honour of her life to be her adoption by the Wet'suwet'en people, a First Nation in northern British Columbia, more than fifteen years ago.
