Second Parent Adoptions are often referred to as Same-Sex Parent Adoptions

$4,000 is my standard fee for an uncontested second parent adoption with termination; and includes the cost of court fees, amicus attorney fees and social study. Uncontested means that all parties agree to the adoption and termination and are willingl to sign the necessary documentation. An amicus attorney is the lawer that represents the child and is required by Texas Law.

My name is Michael W. Gonzalez and I’m a Texas lawyer with offices in Houston and Pearland. While my friends usually call me “Mike,” my very good friends call me “Mikey.” My partner is Wes, and when we committed ourselves to one another nearly 17 years ago, there was no such thing as second parent adoptions for same-sex couples. Wes would not have been allowed to adopt our daughter April; although April considers Wes to be her parent. Thankfully, things have changed and LGBT couples can now have equally recognized legal parental rights in Texas

I also provide legal services in the areas of Family Law and Child Custody, Domestic Partner Agreements and Settlements, Estate Planning with Advance Directives, Probate of Estates (Distribution of Property after Death), Real Estate Transactions and any other areas of law affecting persons within the LGBT Community.

Now that our daughter is over 22 years of age, we are able to dedicate more of our personal time to the community by helping others. Here are a few of my other involvements:
