Organizers of the Sacramento Pride Festival announced today that the event will be moved to a new date for 2011—June 4, the first Saturday in June. The 26-year-old annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality has traditionally been held on the third Saturday in June.
Sacramento Pride 2010 was a tremendous success, with the highede, an opening ceremony featuring California State Assembly Speaker John Perez and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, as well as hours of entertainment, great food, and fun. The organizing committee is taking a very short breather, but planning has already begun for Pride 2011.
