ASNP member Sheri R. Abrams, a leading Northern Virginia practitioner in the area of special needs law, died February 8 at age 53. According to her family, she contracted Covid-19 during a recent hospitalization.
“The disability rights community has lost a dedicated advocate and friend,” said Mary Ford, executive director of the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia.
Abrams worked for nearly a quarter-century in the areas of Social Security disability law, special needs planning, elder law and estate planning. She was the founder and principal of Sheri R. Abrams, PLLC, a firm based in Oakton, Virginia. One of Abrams' main practice areas was Social Security disability appeals, and she was the author with Benjamin W. Glass of the book Don’t Gamble with Your Social Security Disability Benefits: What Every Virginia Resident Needs to Know to Win a Social Security Disability Case (Word Association, 2010).
