The Sunday Bowling League is a member of the International Gay Bowling organization. We have been in existence for over 20 years, providing fun and friendly competition in Manhattan for bowlers of all skill levels.
Our season starts in September and ends in May, usually about 28 Sundays (we take off for holiday weekends). We bowl at Chelsea Piers which is located on the West Side Highway near 18th Street between Piers 59 and 60 on Sunday nights from 7 to 9:45 pm.
Our weekly dues are $30 which includes shoes and ball rental. There is a one-time entry fee of $40 and a one time sanction fee of $21. Thus, bowling for a full season will cost about $900. We do have a modest prize fund at the end of the season, so everyone gets back something.
We are a coed league, but men do outnumber women about 6:1. We are a 1100% handicap league (that is bowling lingo), which means that we make competition as fair as possible so that no matter the skill level, if you bowl well, your team has a good chance to win. We form new teams in August and have a few practice sessions the last few weeks in August to get ready for the new season. All of our rules are on our website under the Rules tab.
Anyone interested in joining should send an email through the website, and we will respond within a reasonable amount of time. There is usually street parking in the neighborhood, but there is a paid parking area at Chelsea Piers, and the lanes have a fully equipped bar and a decent menu.
