Todd S. Baratz

Today it is common for diagnoses and definitions of what it is to be ‘normal’ to shape ones understanding of his or her experience. By contrast, I believe that individual experiences are inherently unique and therefore require a similar approach in therapy. I stray from mainstream definitions of illness and seek to encourage strength and empower clients through the struggles that often accompany our life journeys.

I am a gay male psychotherapist (Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (License# MH10500). I received my Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from University of Miami and my Bachelors degree in Mental Health from New York University. I have conducted leadership training in group facilitation, LGBTQ Safe-Zone, and holistic health and have led seminars on alternative methods of treatment, community organizing, and peer-support. While in New York I worked on clinical research in child and adolescent development. I am a passionate advocate for equal rights within the LGBTQ community and am sensitive to the unique challenges with which individuals in this community have to deal.

I believe that listening carefully and tailoring my approach to the needs of the client is central to a therapeutic relationship. My experiences in different therapeutic orientations are the foundation from which I provide an individually based approach. I am committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and hopefully space within which to confront difficult and painful challenges.
