Austin Valkyries Women's Rugby

The Austin Valkyries Women’s Rugby Football Club is Austin’s own Division I Women’s rugby team. The Valkyries have been playing high-level rugby in Austin since 1974. We are currently 5-1 in our league, ranked #1 in Texas for the past 5 years, and we have been ranked in the Top 12 in the Nation annually. In order to maintain our high level of competition and compete in our division playoffs, the Valkyries must travel nationwide. This season alone, we will travel to St. Louis, Dallas, Denver, Boston and San Francisco. These events all lead up to the final USA Rugby National Club Championship in November.

Our players are active in the community and dedicated to our sport. We are professors, emergency responders, teachers, medical practitioners, and graduate students. To fund our team costs, players pay substantial dues each season and hold a variety of team fundraisers. We are looking for additional financial support from organizations such as yours to subsidize our travel and equipment needs for this season and next. The Austin Valkyries are a 501(c)3 organization with over 35 active members and a network of Alumni, Sister Teams (University of Texas, Texas A&M University, Austin Blacks and the Austin Huns) family and other supporters. Home games are hosted at Burr Rugby Field and Zilker Park with 50-100 spectators per game. We also help to host annual tournaments, drawing some 60+ teams and hundreds of spectators to each event. When the Valkyries are not playing, we give back to the community by volunteering with organizations such as Marathon Kids, A.I.S.D schools, Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Central Texas Blood and Tissue Center.
