Sydenham Street United Church in historic Kingston, Ontario, constructed in 1852, is a downtown church and city landmark. We invite you to join activities in our church community, check out some concerts and events hosted here, or contact us about renting our beautiful space.
As an Affirming Congregation we seek to be a vital faith community within The United Church of Canada engaged in spirituality, justice and creativity informed by Jesus Christ and the Bible., and discerning the call of the Trinity as we celebrate diversity, inclusivity and abundant life. We are committed to deepening our spiritual relatedness and honoring the worth of each individual by extending hospitality and pastoral care, and sharing relevant and meaningful worship, spiritual practices, and small group ministry
But we are more than a religious organization. In recent years the Church has developed into a valued asset for the arts and music community of Kingston. Blessed with one of the finest concert halls in the area, it has become a favoured venue for concerts and numerous other events.
We recognize the soul-enhancing power of art of all kinds - music, theatre, visual arts, etc. Our goal is to nurture the arts community in Kingston by providing space for artistic presentations (concerts, art shows, rehearsals, etc.), and to nurture the congregation through the incorporation of artistic experiences into worship and other congregational events. The Art and Soul Ministry Circle is involved in creating and co-ordinating these experiences, and in exploring ways to enhance our church spaces for the use of the wider Kingston arts community. New members are always welcome to join this group.
We are also committed to broadening our outreach/social justice through existing programs, advocacy and new initiatives to address local, national and global needs; and to welcoming the use of our space by those involved in outreach/social justice seeking to live lives of compassion and peace.
