Efference Doula Services

A doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to pregnant people before, during, and after events in the reproductive health continuum.

Birth doulas play a variety of roles as dictated by the woman or family she serves. A birth doula:

• Recognizes birth as a key experience that the mother will remember all her life
• Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a person in labor
• Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
• Stays with the woman throughout the labor
• Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decisions
• Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner, and the clinical care providers
• Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting of the birth experience
• Allows the partner to participate at his/her comfort level

I am a gay-friendly and trans-aware doula serving North Carolina's Piedmont Triad region. My passion is supporting all families to help them have the best possible birthing experience on their terms. Lactation education and support also available.
