The Granite Inn is a luxury B&B in Rockland in the heart of Midcoast Maine, USA.
This stately home’s history began almost 170 years ago as a Federal Colonial built by local craftsmen from locally quarried granite. Since that time it has gone through many incarnations serving as a private home and an Elks clubhouse. In 1984, the home was transformed into a B&B, and has remained Rockland’s only historic harborfront B&B.
In 2006, Edwin and Joan Hantz purchased the inn. While the historic architecture and many of the beautiful touches such as Terrazzo tile floors were left in place, the inn has been renewed in a simple, clean contemporary style interspersed with family antiques.
Eight individually decorated guest rooms and suites welcome couples, families, and those traveling with pets, offering a combination of queen or king beds, with trundles for children. All guest rooms feature private baths, one with a whirlpool. Two rooms overlook Rockland’s working harbor and morning sunrises. Common areas are spacious, encouraging guests to relax, read, play games, or have a quiet conversation in front of the fireplace.
After a restful night, we take pride in getting guests off to a good start to their day. Breakfast is hearty and served family-style to encourage conversation among guests. Served in the bright dining room, breakfast entrees range from apple pancakes to a variety of healthy quiches, crêpes, and more, accompanied by fresh fruit and muffins or scones, fresh-baked from scratch.
