Ballet Espressivo

Adult Ballet Classes

Our approach to dance education is unique: in-depth study in the technique & performance of the art of classical ballet plus over twenty-five years of teaching experience. Unlike many dance schools, we offer the thorough & constructive feedback needed for students to progress without developing injuries or bad habits. Student/Teacher ratios are kept low in order to maximize time to address individual student needs.Much emphasis is placed on not only correctness of form but also musicality, line, and artistry. Teaching principles rely upon a sound knowledge of human anatomy & physiognomy. Classes are designed for both the non-professional adult & the aspiring professional dancer &/or teacher. We have an international reputation - students come from Germany, France, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, Japan & United States among others, explicitly to study with us.

Ballet floor barre: Students will be guided through a systematic and thorough approach to stretching & strengthening. Students will gain knowledge of classical ballet technique i.e. how to work efficiently, according to the laws of the body, as well receiving plenty of individualized attention. An excellent preparation and/or complement to our regular ballet classes.

Director/teacher/choreographer Donna Greenberg has a rich background in the arts. She has studied a variety of dance styles: modern dance, dance improvisation, and choreography under Til Thiele at the Centre of Movement and York University; classical ballet at the National Ballet School; Baroque dance under Elaine Biagi-Turner; and eighteenth-century ballet under Edmund Fairfax. Related studies include dance pedagogy, French mime and acting, training in classical music (voice, harmony, counterpoint, and music history) through Royal Conservatory of Music as well as vocal jazz  and English literature at University of Toronto (BA).

She is a gifted teacher with over twenty-five years of pedagogical experience in various fields. In addition to the dance and floor barre classes she offers through the Ballet Espressivo School, she has also taught Baroque dance, music and movement for children, ear training, and period movement (Sheridan College and Humber College).

Donna thus brings a vast knowledge of dance, music, and theatrical performance to her classes.

We welcome and encourage all adult students!
